Why?

I am looking for excellent espresso in Minneapolis. Despite all the options available, I have not found a one. The national chains... no, the local chains... no. Spyhouse? Diamonds? Blue
Moon? Sadly, no. I recently tried Red Stag, not a coffee house, surely, but they do everything else well, and were charging $3 for a single espresso, they must at least be trying. Nope. I could watch as the barman dumped the puck that had been sitting there at least as long as I had, and filled the PF with coffee from the doser that had also been in there just as long. To top it off, he brewed it into a coffee cup and then poured it into a demitasse when the server objected.

I ventured into St. Paul to see if the first coffee house to brew with Clover 1 machines had better coffee. The coffee from the C1 was interesting. An incredibly complex range of flavors rarely seen outside a professional cupping session, but little body or richness. I haven't been back to sample their espresso. Anyone had it?

There are plenty of places with free Wi-Fi, pleasant atmospheres, tasty pastries, even soup! But despite the expensive and complex machinery, and the freshest, best beans, the result is...Feh. and at twice the price of the equally insipid pot-brewed junk.

I think what is missing is knowing what a really good espresso tastes like. Full bodied, syrupy mouthfeel, at least a few of the possible hundreds of flavors and aromas, a little bitter, perhaps, but balanced with it's own sweetness.
Anyone had that here?
